Introducing Magnelis® – our New Innovation for Fabric Shelters

March 22, 2026

When it comes to structural steel that can withstand harsh weather, industrial environments, and demanding manufacturing applications, nothing compares to Magnelis® steel tubing from Imperial Steel. Made in the heart of Canada, this premium steel delivers unmatched durability, corrosion resistance, and reliability for projects that need to endure.

The Steel That Stands Up to the Toughest Climates

Whether you’re building fabric shelters, industrial equipment, agricultural structures, or outdoor infrastructure, Magnelis® steel tubing is engineered to perform. Its advanced zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating provides twice the corrosion resistance of standard galvanized steel, protecting both surfaces and cut edges – even in coastal, industrial, or high-moisture environments. Real-world testing across 1,000+ samples worldwide confirms its long-term performance, giving you confidence from fabrication to years of service.

Why Manufacturers and Engineers Rely on Magnelis®

From engineers specifying structural frameworks to fabricators and shelter manufacturers, Magnelis® steel tubing offers a unique combination of strength, formability, weldability, and paintability. Its stability in demanding conditions reduces maintenance needs and ensures your projects stay strong for years. For fabric shelters in particular, this tubing provides a durable backbone that keeps structures safe, reliable, and built to last.

Magnelis® steel tubing is designed for applications where durability and corrosion resistance are critical. Key uses include:

  • Fabric shelters and portable buildings – serving as the structural backbone for outdoor shelters, garages, and storage buildings.
  • Agricultural structures and equipment – barns, fencing, silos, and machinery frames exposed to moisture and soil.
  • Industrial and commercial fabrication – racking systems, industrial enclosures, and structural components.
  • Renewable energy and infrastructure – solar mounts, sign poles, and lighting systems requiring long-term outdoor performance.

What Makes Magnelis® Truly Different

Unlike standard hot-dip galvanized steel, Magnelis® is coated with a proprietary zinc-based alloy containing 3% magnesium and 3.5% aluminum. This creates a dense, self-healing protective layer that continues to guard steel even when it’s cut or welded. It’s the only metallic coating certified for use in C5 environments, making it ideal for North America’s toughest climates – from salty coastal air to freeze-thaw conditions inland.

Partnering with Imperial Steel Means Quality You Can Trust

Imperial Steel is committed to delivering steel solutions you can rely on. With Magnelis® steel tubing, you get the peace of mind of a locally manufactured product, tested worldwide, and built to exceed expectations.

When your project demands strength, reliability, and long-term corrosion protection, Magnelis® steel tubing delivers.  Imperial Steel stands behind every roll, every cut, and every frame.

Imperial Steel Celebrates 90 years of Excellence

April 27, 2022

Imperial Steel’s history has always played an important role in the company’s identity.  This year, the company will celebrate its 90th anniversary of its founding – a historic milestone for a company that was founded by an immigrant during the height of the Great Depression in rural Manitoba.

Henry Bobrowski founded Imperial Steel on May 1, 1932 as a small welding shop.  In the years that followed, he built a reputation within his local farming community for his creative solutions to farming dilemmas.

It has been 90 years since the company’s founding and in the halls today, you will find the fourth generation of Bobrowski’s leading the charge. Though much has changed over the years, the drive for providing quality solutions for our customers is still very much at the core of our business. Imperial Steel will continue to evolve and deliver on trusted products for many more years to come.

A message to our clients: Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic

April 09, 2020

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Canada and around the world, it has been our priority to do our part. Following the directive of Public Safety Canada which lists manufacturing (e.g. primary metal/steel, blow molding, component manufacturers, chemicals, etc. that feed end-product manufacturing) as an Essential Service, we have continued our operations here at Imperial while taking the utmost pre-caution and measure to ensure the health and well-being of our staff, suppliers and clients.

For the past weeks, we have taken additional measures to protect our staff who are working throughout this crisis. We have implemented temperature testing of every staff member prior to entering the premises. Within our facilities, we have put in place social distancing measures (6 feet at all times). Doors are also locked to prevent the entry of non-essential vendors and salespeople.

To reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, all freight paperwork are now being handled via email. Documents are digitally signed to reduce in-person interaction and surface transmission.

Thank you to our team for going above and beyond in these challenging times to keep our operations running. If you have any questions about the measures that we have put in place, please contact Terry at terryt@imperialsteel.com.

85 Years of Excellence in the Tubing Industry

May 01, 2017

On this day 85 years ago, a tradition of excellence was born. Henry Bobrowski established a reputation of quality and craftsmanship that we are proud to continue to this day.

The success and growth that we have achieved at Imperial Steel would not have been possible without the wonderfully loyal customers with whom we’ve had the pleasure of doing business throughout the years. To our valued customers, we say ‘thank you’, and assure you that the value-added service and superior products you’ve become accustomed to will always be a part of our customer relationship.

The world has certainly changed in 85 years but one thing will never change – you can put your trust in Imperial Steel Products because Quality is a Tradition!

Imperial Steel Supports a Safe Farming Community

March 08, 2017

Imperial Steel has always been a proud supporter of Canadian farming families, and that’s why we support Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW).

Organized by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), CASW is a public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of farm safety. The aim is to empower producer families with the information they need to help keep kids, adults and seniors safe on the farm or ranch. CASW takes places every year during the third week of March and in 2017, it is set for the week of March 12th to 18th.

This year, we are appealing to adults – especially those who are busy juggling family, farm and work, to use safe farming methods.

Even adults need help sometimes, and that’s why you should never stop learning. Check out the resources available to you – including new “Farm Talks” info and “Toolbox Talks”, which feature topics such as Operating Portable Augers, Preparing Grain Bins for Harvest, Transporting Oversized Loads, plus a new women’s health series – at agsafetyweek.ca.

ZAM® Continues to Outperform in the Marketplace

November 09, 2016

Here at Imperial Steel, we’ve been wise to the great product known as ZAM® for a while now, and proudly extolled its’ virtues in the spring and fall of 2015, because we knew it was going to be a game changer for many companies and industries.

ZAM logo

Fast forward a little over a year, and the demand for ZAM® has now grown exponentially! The producers of ZAM®, Wheeling-Nisshin, are working at full capacity to produce the product that so many industries have grown to trust.

They have expanded into industries such as road/civil engineering, the rail industry, construction, housing, and the list continues to grow. The superior corrosion resistance, press formability, and five different types of chromium-free treatments, make it a unique product and a tough act to follow in terms of durability and longevity. ZAM® Solar Racking, for example, is 2 to 20 times more corrosion resistant than galvanized, making grid failure virtually impossible.

Companies using ZAM® are already seeing life cycle cost reduction thanks to its’ superior corrosion resistance and variety of processed products.

We’re happy to have witnessed and been a part of the advent of this ground-breaking product in North America, and continue to support its’ growth in the marketplace.

If you have questions about how ZAM® can help to improve your projects, contact Imperial Steel for a free estimate today.

  • ZAM® is produced according to Designation: A1046/A1046M Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy-Coated by the Hot-Dip Process
  • ZAM® is a registered trademark applied to the hot-dipped zinc-aluminum-magnesium-alloy-coated steel sheets developed by Nisshin Steel Co. Ltd.

Value Added Products – Large Diameter Air Filtration

August 09, 2016

At Imperial Steel, we work with our clients to determine exactly what products will support their application requirements. We enjoy working with our customers to manufacture parts that are closer to finished parts versus longer tubing lengths that they have to manipulate themselves to make the specific parts they need.

In recent years, we have had the opportunity to create products for the purpose of large diameter air filtration. Air filtration is a very important aspect to the processes of many industries such as construction, agriculture, marine, mining, automotive exhaust, and companies that specialize in heating/cooling.

The benefits of large diameter air filtration will vary depending upon the industry. Overall, larger air filtration ranging from 7” to 12” will guarantee more filtration efficiency and higher airflow.

Imperial Steel has the ability to be very adaptive to many different manufacturing specifications and we will assist the manufacturer with the research and development required to produce a truly superior product.
