Ag-Safety-Week-2017-500x475Imperial Steel has always been a proud supporter of Canadian farming families, and that’s why we support Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW).

Organized by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), CASW is a public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of farm safety. The aim is to empower producer families with the information they need to help keep kids, adults and seniors safe on the farm or ranch. CASW takes places every year during the third week of March and in 2017, it is set for the week of March 12th to 18th.

This year, we are appealing to adults – especially those who are busy juggling family, farm and work, to use safe farming methods.

Even adults need help sometimes, and that’s why you should never stop learning. Check out the resources available to you – including new “Farm Talks” info and “Toolbox Talks”, which feature topics such as Operating Portable Augers, Preparing Grain Bins for Harvest, Transporting Oversized Loads, plus a new women’s health series – at agsafetyweek.ca.

Here at Imperial Steel, we’ve been wise to the great product known as ZAM® for a while now, and proudly extolled its’ virtues in the spring and fall of 2015, because we knew it was going to be a game changer for many companies and industries.

ZAM logoFast forward a little over a year, and the demand for ZAM® has now grown exponentially! The producers of ZAM®, Wheeling-Nisshin, are working at full capacity to produce the product that so many industries have grown to trust.

They have expanded into industries such as road/civil engineering, the rail industry, construction, housing, and the list continues to grow. The superior corrosion resistance, press formability, and five different types of chromium-free treatments, make it a unique product and a tough act to follow in terms of durability and longevity. ZAM® Solar Racking, for example, is 2 to 20 times more corrosion resistant than galvanized, making grid failure virtually impossible.

Companies using ZAM® are already seeing life cycle cost reduction thanks to its’ superior corrosion resistance and variety of processed products.

We’re happy to have witnessed and been a part of the advent of this ground-breaking product in North America, and continue to support its’ growth in the marketplace.

If you have questions about how ZAM® can help to improve your projects, contact Imperial Steel for a free estimate today.

  • ZAM® is produced according to Designation: A1046/A1046M Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy-Coated by the Hot-Dip Process
  • ZAM® is a registered trademark applied to the hot-dipped zinc-aluminum-magnesium-alloy-coated steel sheets developed by Nisshin Steel Co. Ltd.

At Imperial Steel, we work with our clients to determine exactly what products will support their application requirements. We enjoy working with our customers to manufacture parts that are closer to finished parts versus longer tubing lengths that they have to manipulate themselves to make the specific parts they need.

raw-coils-large-diameter-air-filtrationIn recent years, we have had the opportunity to create products for the purpose of large diameter air filtration. Air filtration is a very important aspect to the processes of many industries such as construction, agriculture, marine, mining, automotive exhaust, and companies that specialize in heating/cooling.

The benefits of large diameter air filtration will vary depending upon the industry. Overall, larger air filtration ranging from 7” to 12” will guarantee more filtration efficiency and higher airflow.

Imperial Steel has the ability to be very adaptive to many different manufacturing specifications and we will assist the manufacturer with the research and development required to produce a truly superior product.

At Imperial Steel, we have extensive experience in the agricultural industry, and we have been a supplier to the manufacturers of grain augers for many years.

A grain auger is an agricultural screw conveyor with a long metal tube approximately 8 to 13 inches in diameter with an enclosed metal auger that is used to raise and transport grain from the ground to the top of the grain bins or to load trucks from the grain bin. Grain augers can also be used to disperse feed from a wagon to cattle feeders on a farm. (Definition courtesy of RITCHIEWiki.)

Air Grain Vacuum-475x351In recent years, there has been a demand for equipment that will help to improve efficiency on expanding farms.

Enter air grain vacuums.

An air grain vacuum is a high capacity air fan that creates a vacuum for picking up and moving grain, and is designed to move grain from grain storage facilities onto grain transport vehicles.

The latest generation of grain vacs delivers capacities exceeding 10,000 bushels per hour, and many farmers run whole bins through a grain vac instead of turning to an auger. According to manufacturer reports, both fan-type and pneumatic-type grain vacs are now running through a million bushels without requiring major maintenance.

Imperial Steel is proud to provide tubular products used in various agricultural applications throughout North America. Our thin wall steel tubing is used by several grain vac manufacturers due to its strength and durability. We have the ability to adapt to many different manufacturing specifications and will assist the manufacturer with the research and development required to produce a truly superior product.

Centre pivot irrigation has become a staple of modern-day agriculture and is now almost as prevalent as tractors in our open fields.

center-pivot-irrigationCenter pivot irrigation was invented in 1940 by visionary Frank Zybach. In 1948, Zybach built the first model, mounted on metal skids with two towers connected by wires that worked two-way water control valves, and had a sprinkler pipe hanging about two feet from the ground. In 1949, he applied for a patent and received one in 1952 for the “Zybach Self Propelled Sprinkling Irrigation Apparatus”.

People didn’t latch on to the idea right away, but by June 1976, Scientific American magazine called centre pivot irrigation systems “perhaps the most significant mechanical innovation in agriculture since the replacement of draft animals by the tractor” and the Irrigation Association says it is “without a doubt the greatest advancement in agriculture since the McCormick reaper”; so recognition did eventually come to pass.

Fast forward to the present and Imperial Steel is proud to be a tubing manufacturer and distributor for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) companies wanting to deliver even more specialized centre pivot irrigation systems.

Center pivot systems require different specs than what we have produced historically. We love to conceive of new uses for our tubing and collaborate with our clients to deliver value added products that meet their needs and solve their problems.

Manufacturing tubing for centre pivot irrigation systems combines our love of innovation and creating value added products with our love of the agriculture industry, and we hope to continue blazing a trail long into the future.

FABTECH Canada 2016 is Canada’s leading exclusive fabricating, welding, metal forming, and finishing event. The show happens every 2 years and will be held at the Toronto Congress Centre from March 22nd thru 24th.

fabtech-canada-logoCo-sponsored by five industry-leading associations: the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association Intl. (FMA), SME, American Welding Society (AWS), Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), and Chemical Coaters Association Intl. (CCAI), the show is a one-stop shop for metal fabricators to browse metalworking tools and technology; network with other manufacturing professionals; and learn about technical and leadership concepts via educational conferences, panel discussions, and forums.

More than 350 exhibitors will occupy over 73,000 square feet of floor space, giving attendees access to hundreds of new products, product experts, special events and education sessions.

Canadian manufacturers directly employ more than one in every 10 working Canadians – making manufacturing the third largest industry for employment in Canada, eclipsed only by retail and healthcare.

FABTECH has grown to become North America’s most authoritative event for metal forming, fabricating, welding, and finishing since its debut in 1981. The show has grown exponentially with Fabtech Canada, Fabtech Mexico and Fabtech USA all experiencing great success.

Imperial Steel is proud to be part of an industry that makes products to improve daily life – providing safety, convenience, comfort, energy and more!
