A message to our clients: Our response to the COVID-19 pandemic

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Canada and around the world, it has been our priority to do our part. Following the directive of Public Safety Canada which lists manufacturing (e.g. primary metal/steel, blow molding, component manufacturers, chemicals, etc. that feed end-product manufacturing) as an Essential Service, we have continued our operations here at Imperial while taking the utmost pre-caution and measure to ensure the health and well-being of our staff, suppliers and clients.

For the past weeks, we have taken additional measures to protect our staff who are working throughout this crisis. We have implemented temperature testing of every staff member prior to entering the premises. Within our facilities, we have put in place social distancing measures (6 feet at all times). Doors are also locked to prevent the entry of non-essential vendors and salespeople.

To reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19, all freight paperwork are now being handled via email. Documents are digitally signed to reduce in-person interaction and surface transmission.

Thank you to our team for going above and beyond in these challenging times to keep our operations running. If you have any questions about the measures that we have put in place, please contact Terry at terryt@imperialsteel.com.

Imperial Steel Supports a Safe Farming Community

Ag-Safety-Week-2017-500x475Imperial Steel has always been a proud supporter of Canadian farming families, and that’s why we support Canadian Agricultural Safety Week (CASW).

Organized by the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) and the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), CASW is a public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of farm safety. The aim is to empower producer families with the information they need to help keep kids, adults and seniors safe on the farm or ranch. CASW takes places every year during the third week of March and in 2017, it is set for the week of March 12th to 18th.

This year, we are appealing to adults – especially those who are busy juggling family, farm and work, to use safe farming methods.

Even adults need help sometimes, and that’s why you should never stop learning. Check out the resources available to you – including new “Farm Talks” info and “Toolbox Talks”, which feature topics such as Operating Portable Augers, Preparing Grain Bins for Harvest, Transporting Oversized Loads, plus a new women’s health series – at agsafetyweek.ca.

ZAM® Continues to Outperform in the Marketplace

Here at Imperial Steel, we’ve been wise to the great product known as ZAM® for a while now, and proudly extolled its’ virtues in the spring and fall of 2015, because we knew it was going to be a game changer for many companies and industries.

ZAM logoFast forward a little over a year, and the demand for ZAM® has now grown exponentially! The producers of ZAM®, Wheeling-Nisshin, are working at full capacity to produce the product that so many industries have grown to trust.

They have expanded into industries such as road/civil engineering, the rail industry, construction, housing, and the list continues to grow. The superior corrosion resistance, press formability, and five different types of chromium-free treatments, make it a unique product and a tough act to follow in terms of durability and longevity. ZAM® Solar Racking, for example, is 2 to 20 times more corrosion resistant than galvanized, making grid failure virtually impossible.

Companies using ZAM® are already seeing life cycle cost reduction thanks to its’ superior corrosion resistance and variety of processed products.

We’re happy to have witnessed and been a part of the advent of this ground-breaking product in North America, and continue to support its’ growth in the marketplace.

If you have questions about how ZAM® can help to improve your projects, contact Imperial Steel for a free estimate today.

  • ZAM® is produced according to Designation: A1046/A1046M Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy-Coated by the Hot-Dip Process
  • ZAM® is a registered trademark applied to the hot-dipped zinc-aluminum-magnesium-alloy-coated steel sheets developed by Nisshin Steel Co. Ltd.

Workplace Safety in the Manufacturing Industry

Workplace health and safety is key to the success of any manufacturing business. Not only do manufacturers want to ensure their employees function in the best possible environment, but workplace health and safety is also key to their financial success as worker productivity increases exponentially in a safe environment. Most importantly, workers in a safe and healthy environment produce the highest quality products.

The keys to workplace health and safety are found in the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety standards. Guidelines include fire safety, first aid and emergency plans. Since implementing these standards in 1970, workplace injuries and illness have decreased by 40 per cent. But manufacturing, construction, engineering, welding and other physically-demanding workplaces require more specific standards.

Risk hazard assessments, appropriate tools and other equipment are some examples and the use of personal safety equipment such as helmets, gloves, face and ear protection, appropriate clothing and safety footwear is paramount to their success,.

Worker compliance is a necessity for ensuring the safety of workers. These standards can be achieved through communication and education. Well-trained managers and floor staff understand the importance of safety wear and can share information through both verbal and written reminders. Posters and other written notices should be prominently displayed throughout the workplace. And managers should meet regularly with workers to ensure they understand the importance of workplace safety.

Beyond safety gear, equipment must also comply with safety standards. At Imperial Steel, we ensure that not only our workplace is healthy but that our products, developed for the automotive and agriculture industries, are produced with the highest quality and care. Our tubing lines include galvanized, aluminized, welded, hot rolled and cold rolled and our products are rust-protected to the best degree possible using ZAM® alloy coated steel.
